Elton John issued a few uneven albums between the years 1979-1982, but by the time he got to "Ice On Fire" in 1985, he WAS on fire again. "This Town," "Cry To Heaven," and "Candy By The Pound" are great tunes. But the real treats are the immortal "Nikita" and the duet with George Michael, "Wrap Her Up." Also, for some reason, the last track - "Act Of War" was left off the original vinyl version of this album - and it is almost impossible to find on the original Geffen label that Elton left in 1986. I received a great original rare disc for a decent price. That's a bargain under any circumstance! Thank you!You could buy the cd; album was virtually unobtainable in 1985, as lp's were being fazed out back then. The artwork is why I bought this one. Elton recently prevailed in a lawsuit over "Nikita." So, in a way, this record is still highly relevant, as all fine art eventually is. Lp has display art included, no cd ever came close in that regard. Look up "Nikita" on Youtube if you want to know what all the fuss is all about. They don't call him "Sir" for nothing, and never late for dinner.I bought this because I could not find Elton John's two duets with George Michael (Nikita and Wrap Her Up) anywhere else, and it arrived a week early, so I could enjoy the CD even sooner!Very accurate description, great, near perfect condition of the CD. Definitely recommend this sellerGreat album. Bought for Wrap her Up. Liked the rest. For being later Elton John it's great. I love the song This Town a bunch and it is a great record.Personally to me this is a great album. You have the songs Nikita and Wrap Her Up with the addition of This Town and Tell Me What The Papers Say which gets you in a good mood every time you listen to them. Overall it is a great album. It's Sir Elton!! What's not to like??!!I'm not a fan of Elton John particularly, and only know this and one other album, but I'm surprised it got a fairly lukewarm response. It has a lot of good songs, and sounds very mid-80s, which is great for those of us that love that era! Many of the tracks blend his writing skill brilliantly with a fairly synthesised sound: among the best are the opening This Town, which goes well with the last, Act Of War, even though they are very different in theme. Both feature soul stars - the first has Sister Sledge on backing vocals, the latter being a duet with Millie Jackson. This song was missed off the remastered version from 1999, but I think it's a great track, it has such energy in its tongue-in-cheek confrontation, and Millie's singing is electrifyingly fierce. Other highlights include Soul Glove, and a duet with George Michael, Wrap Her Up, which really makes you want to hear it through over and over. Too Young is interesting and has a certain emotional pull; Cry To Heaven touching - there seems to be a social awareness filtered through the album. The biggest hit was Nikita, which I find a bit MOR, but it clearly struck a chord in the era of the film Letter To Brezhnev. And what a great melody Shoot Down the Moon is - just quintessentially 1985 ...I have most of Elton's cd's in my collection and enjoy a lot of his eighties material as my parents played them as I was growing up. To be honest the reason I got this album was for the track Too Young as it has Roger Taylor & John Deacon from Queen playing on it and as I'm a life long Queen fan I wanted to hear it. That being said Ice On Fire is a really good album from start to finish and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard or got it as part of the collection.I absolutely love my LP thank you. Its now with my collection of Sir Elton John music I have. Cant stop playing it on my turntable xxBought this as I love the singles from it and just wanted as a keepsake for the other music that he was doing from that same era . I was not dissapointed as this also contains some very good songs , besides those that were released as the singles . A good buyNot as good as I hoped but of course this is all subjective. Best albums are buried in his past releases but I still enjoy captain fantastic, and of course yellow brick road. Try comparing?
