Trumpeter Nat Gonella made his name in the thirties, and left a legacy of recordings, most notably with Billy Cotton, Roy Fox, Lew Stone, and the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra. In 1934 he formed his own group, the Georgians, and this compilation features 26 of their recordings, from late 1934 to mid-1937. Nat was much influenced by the playing of Louis Armstrong, both in his playing and singing, but he carved out his own style, which is instantly recognisable. This is a great selection of mainly well-known songs of the period, lovingly remastered and well-packaged, as one would expect from Vocalion.
