My daughter-in-law got us a GE Opal Profile ice-maker a few years ago when they first came out. It's great to have ice on hand without opening the freezer door. I was even able to remove the ice-maker from the refrigerator which gave us a whole 'nother shelve to store frozen food. Since then, we've become dependent on having ice at hand, especially during the holidays and at other times when we have guests over. But, like anything else, it started wearing out after a few years from daily use. We liked ours so well, that when the GE Opal Profile 2.0 hit the shelves, we switched out the old one.Anyway, I learned pretty quick that these big ice machines need baby sitting. Aside from the ice bucket falling out once in awhile if you snatch it open too quickly or carelessly, you have to clean them out every other month or so with vinegar or some cleaning agent, else the passages get clogged with mineral buildup as well as some nasty film that collects inside. And it all happens pretty quickly if you're not using distilled water. That's where these filters come in handy. The charcoal filters out the minerals that clog the system and best of all, lets you use regular tap water. Just pop off the wire filter that comes with the ice-maker and slip one of these in place. They fit perfectly, EZ PZ.Any time I find a good deal on Opal filters, I jump on it -- the ones from the factory cost a lot more. Our Opal ice-maker still needs cleaning, just not as often. And the ice tastes cleaner. The GE Opal Profile 2.0 is an improvement over the first model. It has more ice capacity, quieter operation and a phone app that you can monitor your machine with as well as control some of the functions. And the ice bucket doesn't keep falling out! These filters are a must have for clean, great tasting ice in your beverages.
