This is a well designed and built cold brew jug, far superior to the sun tea jugs with the plastic spigots that often don’t last the summer before they start leaking. Besides from having a fine mesh screen for the coffee to brew in, it also has a small screen for the spigot, so you don’t have to consult any loose grounds. Now I will tell you about my first time experience with making iced coffee:I started a cold brew yesterday afternoon and removed the grounds this morning. Unfortunately, as usual it was operator error (isn’t it always) because I used about 5 cups of 13 grind Columbian, a really mellow medium roast. Any way, course grind on my OXO burr grinder is from 11to15, so I split the difference at 13. Normally I believe it is a mortal sin to put sugar in coffee, but it was too bitter to drink otherwise. Next time I will lessen the brewing time from 20 to 12, per instructions, grind at 11, and use only 3 cups of ground coffee. I know it may take 2-3 batches before I hit the right combination(I know it did when I switched to the burr grinder) and will not have to adulterate great coffees with sugar. It's easy to use and makes a delicious cup of iced coffee. The glass pitcher is sturdy and the stainless steel spout looks nice. The removable filter is definitely a plus. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.This works well, however I got it and realized how overpriced this is. There are cheaper brands for half of what I paid for this. Nothing special about it.3 cups of finely ground sumatra. 8 hours on the counter and 12 in the fridge. 2 liters of Deliciousness. The filter is the weakest link. I wish they sold replacements so I knew it could be replaced.I would use this for cold brew coffee a few times a year. When done I would fill with soap and water and run this thru the valve. Multiple times. I would wipe the inside out run more soap and water thru valve to clean. That was great for the first few times. Now I would remove the valve from the pitcher . I found the the funk that was building up inside the valve was disgusting. Black slime chunky a grey slime coming from where the metal on the valve is corroding. I disassembled the entire valve and I will say that if you do this everytime you should be OK. Me I'm not spending 2 hours cleaning a jar. If you do not take the valve completely apart to wash behind seals this will happen. If you own this pitcher and are reading this and have never taken the valve apart not just off the jug. I challenge you to do this. You will need and Allen key, Phillips head, and adjustable wrench. Plastic pick would help pull the seals out. Don't think this could be yours. Grab a cotton swab and run that up the valve and let me know how you feel. This will prolly be the last time I drink out of a valve like this.I'm guessing this will become a coin jar now.Easy to use & so far, after two weeks, have not had any problems.I've been using this thing for about 8 months now. It hasn't broken or shown any major issues.A couple worry my, though:- The metal bits smell like they're rusting. This would be a problem because I don't want rust in my coffee. It's been 8 months... no visible rust, yet. It's kind of weird and a tiny bit worrying.- The screen strainer does not feel very sturdy at all. I've seen in at least one other comment that the screen strainer broke, I believe it. Mine has not broken, fortunately. I've been EXTREMELY gentle with it.- The nozzle is prone to leaking and dripping. There are a couple things I do to fix this problem. 1. Every time I clean it, I tighten the nozzle's nut inside the jar. This can be done by hand. 2. When I finish getting coffee from the nozzle, I gently bump my mug against the bottom of the nozzle to coax any residual coffee into my mug so it doesn't drip. 3. Additionally, when I finish getting coffee and I rotate the nozzle clockwise (this direction keeps the nut tight so it doesn't leak) upward to prevent coffee from further dripping.All-in-all, I feel I've gotten my money's worth and even after the screen strainer breaks, I can still definitely use this lovely jar for *cold* (don't put anything hot in this thing) coffee.Love the gallon size! Works great to make iced coffee, we had a problem with the metal filter for the grounds coming apart, but the company was awesome and easy to work with and they replaced the product!So what can I say about this. First of all it did/does work and produces great flavour cold brew. That said there are serious quality control issues. First of all the lid just pops off. It seems to screw on properly to a point but don’t ever think it’s like a mason jar. Pick it up by the lid and the lid will pop off and if you’re unlucky the glass will obliterate on the floor. I’ve been lucky. The faucet/tap is awful. Fully open you get a tiny trickle. If you hope (like I did) to fill bottles of cold brew to store in the fridge then each bottle will take an age to fill. That’s not the worst bit. I used mine three times without issues (saving the lid and the tap), when cleaning afterwards I was careful not to use anything on the mesh other than running water. Today I did this and the mesh at the bottom of the filter popped right out when I added the coffee. So the filter is good for nothing now. Useless. I would have hoped for a lot more life than three uses! All in all, for the price I’d heartily recommend that you find something else. This just isn’t worth it for the problems you get with it.Thanks for sending a coffee jar that leaks. My whole fridge and freezer became full with coffee due to a leaking nozzle. Took us an hour to clean! Nozzle was all the way “locked” but a slow drip filled our fridge throughout the night. Poor design.I wanted one of these for so long and the good reviews made get this one. I then noticed other reviews saying about mould and rust. When I received mine today it had an awful funny smell and was also rusty and had mould on it. I personally don’t think these have been stored properly at all.Arrived with what looks like machine oil imprinted in the lid and it doesn't wash off.Buy something else.I’m very happy with the maker, but there’s mold on the lid, even though it was wrapped, and it’s not coming off even with strong mold spray. What is this stuff?
