Description

Ash & Ice is the follow-up to 2011’s critically-lauded Blood Pressures and was five years in the making in part due to Jamie Hince’s five hand surgeries. The 13 songs on Ash & Ice are more understated, less tempestuous and more affecting because of that, exposing the kind of push-pull you feel when you find yourself in a complicated but all-consuming relationship. Widespine sleeve with gold foil imprint. Printed inner sleeves.

It's been 5 long years since The Kills last studio album, and let me tell you...their new album, "Ash & Ice" was well worth the wait! I am never disappointed with any of their records. They just keep getting better and better. This is how indie rock/pop should be done. No filler here. All 13 tracks are memorable and ridiculously catchy. Every song has 1 or 2 hooks, impressive and unexpected tempo changes, distorted, blistering guitar solos, and a catchy chorus that you won't be able to get out of head for days. Once again, this album is produced Jamie Hince (one half of The Kills). He's so incredibly talented. The other half of The Kills is lead singer, Alison Mosshart. I've always loved her voice. It's so sexy and clear as a bell. With every album, Alison's voice continues to improve. I hear a confidence I haven't heard before on previous records. Her vocals really shine and surprised me on "Black Tar" which is my pick for favorite song on "Ash & Ice". Jamie and Alison are such an unique twosome. Why oh why aren't they more famous?!?! It baffles me. The first 2 singles, "Doing It To Death" and "Heart Of A Dog" are simply irresistible. "Days of Why and How" has such a cool and seductive chorus, and "Whirling Eye" is just fun, fun. fun! The 3 slower tracks really show Alison's versatility as an artist/songwriter. "Hum For Your Buzz" is so beautiful, and the piano-ballad, "That Love" is simply breathtaking. "Echo Home" is strangely poetic. Very straightforward but emotional at the same time. The lyrics are really strong on "Ash & Ice". Very introspective but not overwrought. "Bitter Fruit" is THE BEST SONG on the album. I can't get enough of it. So good! "Hard Habit to Break", "Let It Drop", "Siberian Nights" and "Impossible Tracks" are also addicting. I didn't want this album to end! It's pure genius. The Kills might not have a huge fan base but they definitely have a loyal following. "I'm loyal, oh oh, I'm loyal..." The best album of 2016 so far. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! Enjoy.
