Description

Proudly standing as the only band we have ever signed from an unsolicited demo, By The End Of Tonight is a young four-piece from a tiny town just south of Houston called Alvin. They are also the only band we’ve ever signed whose drummer plays a kit designed for a toddler, without irony. As with many great bands, this one almost literally came out of nowhere and brought with them the most mind-bending combination of sounds we’ve heard since that dream that I had about Don Caballero and Botch playing a hillbilly ho-down with The Police. The technical gymnastics are there in spades, so much so that it’s not even worth talking about. It’s like telling a crowded room that you’re naked. Not so obvious right away, however, is the passion with which this EP unfurls. Beginning like a twisted prog-rock Georgia stomp, the four songs here are equal parts hardcore, speed metal, jazz breaks, epic avant-rock and sentimental ‘80s soundtracks. It’s a refreshing change of pace for a scene so saturated with one-trick ponies. Plus, it’s loads of fun trying to guess which ‘80s songs some of these riffs were lifted from.

No one plays music like these guys... They're really amazing, and I'm telling you so you can be let in on the secret ahead of time. Not to sound pretentious or arrogant, b/c I mean it. I was lucky enough to see them for free about a year ago. I'm not easily impressed by bands, as there are times when you feel like you've heard it all, and aren't really expecting anybody to come out with anything unique. But there I was at this festival near the close, ready to go home, and this band came on surprised me with their unexpected aural assault. I think they were playing freestyle, but it was highly coordinated. The band chemistry is awesome, you just have to see (or hear) them for yourselves. I can't say enough good things about them. I'll do my best to sum them up for you. Their style is (I hope I'm doing them justice here) what I imagine would happen if you mixed the sounds of Don Caballero and early Beastie Boys (punk rock days) in a blender on high, poured it in a glass, and added Jolt Cola. Drink up!- it's really good. :)
